Enabling owners to profit by having a more sustainable home
The problem
Home Finance products are homogeneous, mortgage rates do not take into consideration the health of our homes, and there are no rewards for more sustainable household choices.
I worked with the small team at Smartlayer.ai as they were tackling this problem as they aimed to get funding.
The brief
Working with the product lead we untangled the large brief of wanting a product that showed:
1) A simplified version of the EPC score, similar to what ClearScore did for credit scores
2) A gamified experience where you could gain rewards for upgrading your home
3) Integration of IOT devices
4) A way to create projects to manage your renovations
5) Offers to reduce your mortgage based on your score
Outcomes
Smartlayer.ai used the initial designs and product direction to gain a first round of funding.
In retrospect I would have liked to push back harder to minimise the amount of features we were designing to as it would have created a clearer picture of what the actual product was and the real problem it was solving.
